Adam Lopez releases new music

Adam Lopez - Releases “Strong”One of Tulsa’s best known Independent artist’s, Adam Lopez announced that he has released a new single available for immediate download. Adam’s music is an eclectic mix of rock, soul, funk, reggae, blues and jazz. I’ve heard him play with Mas Rudie before at Plan B in Tulsa with Citizen Mundi drummer, Canuto. Adam’s sound is original and another reason why I listen to as much Tulsa grown music as I do. His music will grow on you and I am sure that with his newest single release, Adam will gain even more new fans. According to Adam’s website, he says…

…”My guitar is my favorite voice as I feel I can say anything I wish to thru it. My Jah given voice makes me proud also as I feel powerful and raw when I sing. I hope others feel that too.”…

Adam plays all of the instruments on all of his latest releases, including his newest single, “Strong” which is currently available on Adam’s MySpace and from his website Adam Lopez Music.

As most Tulsa Tonight readers know, I am not a professional reviewer but I do enjoy promoting what I believe is true Tulsa, whether it be a new restaurant, club, bar or band - In this case, I am asking you all to support a true Tulsa original musican - Adam Lopez. Tulsa has so much musical talent and Adam’s music is no exception. His evocative lyrics, his unique guitar style and his showmanship make for a great musician and a must see and hear… He is playing near you soon, so be sure to take some time out to catch this developing Tulsa artist.

You can hear Adam Lopez with Mas Rudie every Tuesday night at Plan B in Tulsa. In June, Adam Lopez and Mas Rudie will be performing at The Laughing Wench in Jenks. (see Upcoming Shows - upper right.)

Support Adam Lopez by purchasing his music from his website or MySpace. I have included his SnoCap listing here as well so you can sample and buy his music online

Blues City

Just south of 31st at Mingo lies a great little pub called Blues City. Blues City is under new ownership and I stopped by there last monday to listen to the music of El Trio. El Trio plays every Monday night from 10PM - 12AM. Blues City is a small, intimate bar that is biker friendly, blues friendly and features a good selection of brews and shots.

Brett was the bartender monday night and handled the crowd well. Most of the patrons are local to the area and quite a few came to see El Trio perform accoustic versions of Citizen Mundi’s music.

Blues City has a pool table, a CD jukebox and a wrap around outdoor patio. There is plenty of on site parking. What is really nice about Blues City is that when the weather is nice, the front of the can be opened right out to the patio.

I am told that in warm weather months, they’ll have a grill outside so that they can serve food for special occasions.

Here is the current weekly line up at Blues City

Mondays: Mundi Mondays (El Trio playes live - 3 members from Citizen Mundi and some musician friends) 9PM - $3 Imports and $3 Wells.

Tuesdays: Rock The House Night

Wednesdays: Ladies Night - $1.50 Domestics All Night

Thursdays: Shot and Beer Night

Fridays: Band Night - $8.00 Domestic Buckets

Saturdays: Open Mic Night

Sundays: Mullets 3 Ball Tourney and Beer Specials

My Thanksgiving day and The Tulsa Turkey Tour

PART ONE POSTED 11/23/07

Thanksgiving 2007 will turn out to be one of the most memorable Thanksgivings for me. I called my family back in Jersey to wish them all a Happy T Day, I got to speak to my 1 and a half year old nephew Luke on the phone who can now say “Hi Unca Vinnie”. I spoke to my bro Mike In Burbank and thanked him for the miracle of life. Mike donated a kidney to me 10 years ago and if it weren’t for him and my wonderful family, I may not be sitting here right now writing this blog post!

I spent the afternoon with some of my best friends, Bobby and Angela and then took Emma, my black pug to Bobby’s dads house so she could play with 8 other dogs.

Around 9PM I got together with one of my great friends, ‘The Dools’ and we went to Bostons for the Citizen Mundi Turkey Tour kickoff. Marc B, one of the bartenders at Bostons was working that night and kept the drinks cold. His fellow bartenders did what they always do well and kept the crowd happy.

D.J. Moody spun some great vinyl all night long mixing some vinatge 80’s in with some of todays best dance music with Guns and Roses thrown in as a side dish.

Mundi took to the stage at about 10:45, and played their hearts out till just after 1AM. This Thanksgiving show was a true Mundi fan fest - The guys and girls that follow Mundi from show to show were there - Flavia and her girlfriends were there and were dancing to the rhythms of Mundi. As usual PJ, the Mundi sound engineer mixed down a great show yet again.

Damien Banks from Swahill Studios (Tulsa) shot some video footage of the band and the crowd. (I am hoping he gets the video edited down soon so I can see how much of a fool I made of myself trying to dance.)

Citizen Mundi continues the Turkey Tour Friday November 23rd at The Continental (8PM) on 1st and Elgin in Tulsa and then on Saturday November 24th they wrap up the Turkey Tour at Fishbonz (9PM) at 61st and Sheridan, also in Tulsa.

PART TWO POSTED 11/24/07

The Mundi show at the Continental was a blast. The Continental is a small, intimate bar next door to Mc Nellie’s Pub on 1st Street in Tulsa. I got to The Continental a little early and watched as Citizen Mundi set up for the show. There are seven musicians in this ensemble and miraculously all seven of them were able to fit on a stage smaller than my home office. Mike Drummond said that the band has played in even smaller venues so the task of getting all seven Mundis on stage at The Continental was not as difficult as most people would think.

The Continental packed in a record crowd Friday night and Mundi made some new fans yet again, playing songs from their ‘No Translation’ CD release as well as a Mundi-ized cover of Manu Chao’s ‘Me Gustas Tu’.

Jason from Urban Tribe got on stage to perform a song with Mundi and told me that he has worked with Mundi before.

Tonight Mundi will be playing at Fishbonz to wrap up the Turkey Tour. See you there!

PART THREE POSTED 11/25/07

I have compeltely lost my voice. I made it to the third and final Turkey Tour show featuring Citizen Mundi live at Fishbonz in Tulsa.
I spoke to band members Wilfredo, Canuto and Mike about some sound eqipment I have that I’d like to give to the band for their upcoming 2008 season. JMB was mingling with fans while Wilfredo snuck away to work on the sound with Mundi sound man PJ.

By 10PM just before the band took stage, Fishbonz was full of Mundi fans and Fishbonz regulars. The managment and staff at Fishbonz run a great venue and they keep their customers happy. Two bars were open last night and several servers were also working tables on the floor. I brought along 6 friends last night and we met several other friends and claimed a table at the front of the stage just in front of Wilfredo’s keyboard stack. Ivy from Fishbonz was our server and though she had many other customers to take care of, she was still able to refresh our drinks in record time all throughout the night.

Mundi had more energy this weekend than the Energizer Bunny. A frenzy of fans and first time Mundi-ites took to the dance floor early into the first set. Fishbonz could have saved some money last night by turning off the heat because Citizen Mundi and their audience heated things up so well into the second set that you could have sold off the excess energy to power a small country.

Until you see Mundi at least once in a live setting, you can’t truly experience the type of energy this band has.

Citizen Mundi ‘HURT’ Video

The Citizen Mundi HURT Video is here!

SEE IT HERE

If you don’t already know, Mundi won the ‘Best None Of The Above’ award at the 2007 SPOT AWARDS.

Once, twice, three times a Mundi

This past weekend was a Citizen Mundi flavored delight. Citizen Mundi played Friday night at The Gray Snail Saloon and played to an electrified crowd for over 3 hours. Playing songs from their CD release ‘No Translation’, they made this small venue sound like a large concert hall. Patrons of the Gray Snail, some of them hearing Mundi for the first time, danced all night long to the rhythms. Mike Drummond and Ryan Tedder did an outstanding job playing horns, punctuating the music of Mundi and moving in synch together while Jean-Michel lead the band as he always does, with style, flair and exhuberance. Keeping the bands time at bay was Canuto and Sergio, Wilfredo worked up a sweat playing keys - he literaly got off a plane from L.A. just an hour or so before playing to a packed pub. Mundi bass player Eric Bass, solidifed the band’s sound and moved in synch with Jean-Michel.

Saturday night, Mundi played with another Tulsa favorite, Sam and The Stylees, down again on Cherry Street at Kilkenny’s first annual block party. Both bands played hard and loud, moving the crowd all night long. Both Mundi and Sam and the Stylees picked up some new fans yet again. These two bands play together often. Offstage, both bands members are friends. Sergio and Canuto from Mundi danced and partied to Sam and The Stylees music with several of their friends. Tulsa musican Garret Overstreet was there enjoying both permances as was Dixie Tavern bartender, The adorable Andy.

Thursday, September 13th will feature Citizen Mundi, Sam and The Stylees, Ghosts, The Hosty Duo and Travis Kidd at River Parks West Amphitheater. Free food and free beer (21+) for attendees. The entertainment starts at 6PM and will continue till 11PM and beyond. For more details visit OurRiverEyes.com .
