NYC Pizza - REVISITED

I grew up in New Jersey - Jersey City to be exact where on almost every other corner was a Vinnie’s Pizza, A Joey’s Pizza, Jule’s Pizza, - you name it and Jersey City had it - good old New York pizza. I have been eating pizza ‘Gumba Style’ at NYC Pizza in Tulsa since March of 2007 - and I am pleased to announce that they have added some great new items to their menu. You’ll still find the best in authentic New York pizza but now you can also order one of the best Meatball Parm (Parmesean) sandwiches this side of the Hudson River for $6.25. Kenny Jr. the owner and his dad and uncle have also added an Italian Combo sandwich chock full of ham, salami, pepperoni, lettuce, tomatoes, oil and vinegar - $5.95. Try their Sausage, Pepper and Onion Hero served on a large hero roll for $6.25.

New House Specialties include Manicotti, Spaghetti and Baked Ziti for under 7 bucks each. Pepperoni Twists and Garlic Knots still fly out the door as they always have and their Canollis are made fresh at the time of ordering and so worth the wait.

My fave is the thick crust Sicilian pizza offered at NYC Pizza… one slice will have you coming back for more. Remember friends that this is NOT conveyor belt pizza and there are no shortcuts to perfection. The pizza is all made to order as you order it. Their white pizza is a winner featuring a light tomato sauce, fresh garlic, whole milk ricotta (rih-goot as the east coasters say it.) fresh basil all on a thin, crisp crust.

Toppings available for all NYC Pizza’s are: pepperoni, Meatballs, Italian Sausage, Onions, Green Peppers, Canadian Bacon, Black Olives, Anchovies, Pineapple, Ricotta, Garlic, Tomato, Fresh Basil and Spinach.

Next time you are there, try eating your pizza Jersey / New York style - with your hands rather than with a knife and fork. Just fold that puppy in half and go to town letting some of the cheese ooze into your mouth. Delicious!

Napolis - Italian Restaurant Broken Arrow

Napolis Italian Restaurant in Broken Arrow, serves up some serious Italian food! I was in Broken Arrow visiting some friends and decided to give Napolis a try. My waiter told me he came from Italy and I could detect his accent as he pronounced specials of the day. I ordered one of my favorite Italian dishes, Chicken Marsala… which is boneless chicken breasts hammered thin and sauteed in mushrooms and rich Marsala wine, served with spaghettini. The dish was superb with just the right amount of Italian spice. Napoli’s uses a quality Marsala wine though I didn’t ask which one. (I generally use Florio Marsala when I make this dish at home.)

The pasta - cooked perfectly and was complimented by a good tomato sauce.

The menu is quite reminiscent of one you would find in a New Jersey, New York or Chicago Mom and Pop Italian restaurant, with plentiful pasta choices:

  • Baked Ziti
  • Eggplant Parmigiana or Eggplant Rollatini
  • Meat or Cheese Ravioli
  • Manicotti
  • Lasagna
  • Tortellini
  • Spaghetti

Pasta sauces vary depending on your pasta selection but include:

  • Marinara
  • Olive Oil, Garlic and Basil
  • Meat Sauce
  • Mushrooms
  • Sausage

Chicken and Veal dishes come in many varieties:

  • Marsala
  • Siciliano
  • Picatta
  • Arrabiatta
  • Parmigiana
  • Diavolo
  • Capelini
  • Damabianka

If it’s Pizza you crave, Napolis serves up some great authentic Pizza, with a wide range of toppings. Iatalian Sub Samdwhiches are a speciality as well at Napolis and include:

  • Calzones
  • Meatball or Sausage or Chicken Parmigiana
  • Stomboli
  • Philly Cheessteak (Napolis uses Mozarella cheese, so while this sandwhich is not a tradional “Philly Cheesesteak”, the “Mutz” works well on this sandwhich!)

Napolis has a great lunch special Tuesday through Saturday for $5.95, including salad.

There is a kids menu with smaller portions of the adult pasta dishes.

Bring a hearty appetite because portions are large, though you’ll want to save room for desert to be able to fit in some Tiramisu or a creamy Cannoli.

Napolis is located at 2039-A West Houston in Broken Arrow (Corner of 81st and 145th, next door to Luv-A-Pet.) Call them at: 918-251-0647

NYC Pizza

Sometimes really good pizza is hard to find anywhere… Tulsa is no exception.

In January I found a great place owned by a former ‘New Yawka’ named Kenny. Kenny has been in Tulsa for over 28 years. He’s worked for companies such as American Airlines and Sky Chef. He opened a great Pizza place called ‘NYC Pizza’ and let me say that I am glad he did. Great toppings, great ingredients and authentic New York City Pizza is what you’ll find at ‘NYC Pizza’ — and you’ll find Kenny, his brother and son making all of it fresh everyday!

Please, if you seriously enjoy conveyor belt pizza, do not visit NYC Pizza… but if you like large slices of pizza, with fresh mozzarella from Jersey, sausage from Chicago, and attitudes from New York… [except they’re not rude!] - Then pay NYC Pizza a visit soon.

Ohh and they make sausage and pepperoni rolls - and calzones!

Please tell them that you heard about them from ‘Vinnie at TulsaTonight.com’ and they probably won’t break your legs!
